Base Pay
First-Year Private Soldier Earnings:
A new private can earn approximately $5,000 in their first year, based on the standard annual training requirement of about 30 service days (including a 2‑week camp, drill nights, and weekend exercises).

RBR soldiers are paid for service on drills, weekends, training camps, and other duty periods. Pay scales are structured by rank and time served in grade.

  • Training Camps: Paid weekly by wire transfer during the 2‑week annual camp or embodiments.
  • Performance Bonus: Paid every December.

RBR Learning Credits

The Royal Bermuda Regiment supports lifelong learning through two programs:

Standard Learning Credits (SLC)

For all serving personnel.

  • Must be “efficient” (met previous year’s Annual Camp & Drill requirements).
  • Covers up to 80% of course costs, max $250 per financial year.
  • Multiple courses allowed, but total reimbursement cannot exceed $250.
  • Claims must be made in the same financial year; no carry‑over or retrospective claims.
  • Course must be completed; incomplete courses are not reimbursed.
  • Proof of completion required.
  • Cannot be used if an RBR/MOD course already exists with available spaces.
  • If unsure about eligibility, contact the RCMO before enrolling.

Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC)

For personnel with 3+ years of service.

Eligibility Tiers
  • 3 years served: Up to $1,000 per financial year
  • 6 years served: Up to $2,000 per financial year
  • Max total per career: 3 claims and $6,000 total
Key Points
  • ELCs fund recognized qualifications only (not simple certificates of attendance).
  • Members must contribute at least 20% of course costs.
  • Study must be done during off‑duty time.
  • Course must be approved by the RCMO before enrollment; ELCs are paid upfront, not reimbursed.
  • ELC boards meet 3 times per year.
  • Cannot be used if an equivalent RBR/MOD course is available.
  • Failing to complete a funded course may require repayment and may affect future eligibility.
